Get Around, Get Around, I Get Around (To Updating)

September 29, 2009

I’ve been busy setting up my classes for the upcoming semester and been swamped with work as well from my jay-oh-bee recently, so this blog has been neglected (plus there’s a glut of video games, both purchased and incoming, that I have to get around to). My September pre-orders should be coming in soon, and it will be a doozy. I’ve also made a pre-order for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Veteran Package for the PS3.

September Lootage

September 5, 2009

My September HobbySearch shipment came in today. Last month I only added one figure to my collection, the Alter Bounty Hunter Yoko, and I sort of missed getting the huge bulk package to tear into. Now this month I am adding five more ladies to my menagerie, and the package they came in was indeed bulk, and it was a joy to dive into it and extract the new additions.

The Nyan Knight

August 27, 2009

Looks like there’s another Ranka coming out to add to my Macross Frontier collection. I’m most likely skipping the Nyan Nyan restaurant version, despite the presence of meat buns on that one, and going straight for this one of her in her concert wear. I already have the Banpresto Ichiban Kuji version of her doing her kira! pose, but this one looks to be even more moe-some.

This version of Ranka will go well with the MegaHouse Sheryl I will be receiving near the end of this month when my bulk package from HobbySearch ships out.

In the meantime, I’m currently playing through Batman: Arkham Asylum for the PlayStation 3 right now. Picked up the Limited Edition on Monday, which came with all these goodies, including the Batarang on a stand. This game comes highly recommended to anyone looking for a good third person action game with a good storyline, and if they are in any way, shape, or form a fan of Batman and comic book superheroes in general.

I really wanted to play this on the PC, but a combination of delayed release (Sept. 15th for the PC version), lack of limited edition, and the PS3 receiving the exclusive Play As The Joker bonus prompted me to pick up the PS3 version. But this game is pretty damn good, that I will probably pick up the PC version in a few weeks and play through it again with 3D Vision and PhysX effects for the ultimate encore experience. But for now, I must go back to kicking ass as the Goddamn Batman!

New Line 1/6 Revy

August 20, 2009

Revy, the somewhat psychotic but oh-so-sexy gunslinger from the action manga/anime Black Lagoon, is modeled here in 1/6 scale using cold cast by New Line. The figure here is actually a re-release, the original line having been released back in 2007. In the interim, New Line also released a cold cast 1/6 scale Roberta from the same anime (who will be making a guest appearance later in this post). Once there was a re-release announced for this figure, I immediately jumped on a pre-order, and I was not disappointed, although the price tag was a little bit hefty due to the figure being made from cold cast rather than the standard PVC plastic found in most mass-produced figures.

MegaHouse 1/8 Ranka Lee Hobby Japan Limited Ver.

August 14, 2009

MegaHouse released its model of Ranka Lee as part of its Excellent Model Core Macross Frontier series a little while back, and also released a limited version of this figure that was only obtainable through a pre-order through Hobby Japan magazine. I described obtaining this figure in an earlier post, from Yahoo Japan Auctions through the Goody Japan deputy service. While a more simple figure than some of my others because Ranka is only wearing a swimsuit here, the figure itself is well-done, and comes with a fairly unique base as well to display it with.

Alter 1/8 Yoko Bounty Hunter of Mystery

August 11, 2009

From Alter comes this PVC figure of Yoko Littner from the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, in her alternate reality bounty hunter attire from episode 26 of the series. SPOILER: The Anti-Spiral sends the Gurren-dan to a dream universe, and Yoko sees herself as a bounty hunter. This is a nice departure from all the other figure versions of Yoko in her her most recognizable attire from the first arc of the anime, and I do like my figures with alternate costumes never or rarely seen in the original source material, such as the Max Factory Haruhi Extravaganza figures.

E2046 Gathering C.C.

August 4, 2009

From e2046 and The Gathering comes this pre-painted resin kit of C.C. from Code Geass in her straight jacket attire after she emerges from the gas capsule from the first few episodes of the first season. As there is a serious lack of C.C. figures both in the wild and in my collection, as I only have the Alpha-Omega C.C. and the Banpresto Ichiban Kuji C.C. as my only manufactured PVC figures of her, and a different pre-painted resin kit of her as well, I immediately jumped on this pre-order of Gathering’s version of her. Although some of e2046’s figures seem to be resin kit copies of pre-existing figure designs (read: bootlegs), this C.C. looked fairly unique, and the figure itself was of a high quality sculpt and paintwork.

The Parallel of Haruhii

July 30, 2009

The limited edition of Suzumiya Haruhi no Heiretsu (The Parallel of Haruhi Suzumiya) for the Nintendo Wii system comes with three figures of the SOS-dan girls dressed in the attire that they sport over the course of the game. I managed to snag myself the limited edition box while at Otakon in the dealer room.

While I unfortunately don’t own a Japanese Wii to play the game on, the figures themselves were worth the asking price, at least in my rabid Haruhi fanboy mindset (that is doing its best right now to justify/ignore the current Endless Eight trolling by KyoAni). I might eventually obtain a cracked Wii and try my hand at the game. In the meantime though, I can admire the figures.

Fuwa Figure Time!

July 26, 2009

WonFes 2009 kicks off, and while I am waiting for my Miku Hatsune Live Stage ver. figma, it looks like the figure gods were kind enough to bestow these figure previews upon us. The lovely ladies from K-ON! make their appearance in both scaled and nendoroid form!

Yui!

Mio!

Afternoon Tea Time!

Hopefully we will see scaled Mugi and Ritsu figures as well. Although I would like to see figures of the gang in their various Sawa-chan sensei provided cosplay. Via HobbyStock.

Quick Update

July 24, 2009

Got back from Otakon last weekend, but apparently I contracted something while there, so I was sick for a while after the convention. I’m finally getting around to updating this blog right now though, but its a quick shot before I go to sleep. I will get around to some of my figures for photoshoots and reviews in the near future. Just wanted to update that I got autographs and pictures taken with Kikuko Inoue of Oh My Goddess! fame, as the lovely voice of Belldandy. I also got an autograph and picture taken with Yutaka Yamamoto, the director of Kannagi, who also famously worked for KyoAni before in directing Haruhi and Lucky Star, and made disparaging remarks regarding the Endless Eight arc that the new Haruhi episodes are currently stuck in a ridiculous infinite loop on.

I got a Kannagi artbook signed by Yamamoto-san, and Oh My Goddess! Colors manga signed by Kikuko-neechan!

I also submitted my room to the Otacool competition hosted by figure.fm for Kotobukiya. You can see the pics of my room here. Please bear with it as I recover from this illness and do my best to begin to profile the glut of figures I obtained recently.
