The Parallel of Haruhii

July 30, 2009

The limited edition of Suzumiya Haruhi no Heiretsu (The Parallel of Haruhi Suzumiya) for the Nintendo Wii system comes with three figures of the SOS-dan girls dressed in the attire that they sport over the course of the game. I managed to snag myself the limited edition box while at Otakon in the dealer room.

While I unfortunately don’t own a Japanese Wii to play the game on, the figures themselves were worth the asking price, at least in my rabid Haruhi fanboy mindset (that is doing its best right now to justify/ignore the current Endless Eight trolling by KyoAni). I might eventually obtain a cracked Wii and try my hand at the game. In the meantime though, I can admire the figures.

Back That Loot Up

July 7, 2009

After a hectic week in Japan, followed by a month-long convalescence in a hospital in China, its good to finally be back stateside. I stumbled, jet-lagged to holy hell, back into my apartment, to be greeted by a nice stack of boxes (kudos to my roommate for bringing it in), of all the loot I had ordered this past month and was unfortunately not home to welcome. Fear not, my children, for your father has come home safe and sound!

Did you miss me, my lovelies? Well, Arnie probably didn’t, he was too busy declaring states of emergencies in the black hole of money known as the Kaleefoynyah Ecahnohmee!

Second Day in Japan – My Wallet Weeps

June 2, 2009

As I said in my previous post of my first day in Japan before I conked out due to jet lag, I was going to hit Akihabara hard today. Although my merchandise buying spree was tempered by the fact that I already had a huge shipment from HobbySearch coming in this month, I found myself a nice set of rare figures to take home with me.

This is the view out of my hotel room. Day started off a little overcast, but no real precipitation occurred, and it never got too unbearably hot either. A very nice day to go a-pillaging the unsuspecting stores of Akihabara.

Haruhi-sama’s Second Coming

May 21, 2009

A new episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya just aired and is titled “Sasa no Ha Rhapsody” (“Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody”), which is the title of a chapter in Volume 3 The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya of the light novels, which is SPOILERS: about Kyon traveling through time, meeting a younger Haruhi, and helping her draw the infamous symbols on the school grounds.

Feast your eyes on the new ED. The song didn’t immediately latch onto my brain like Hare Hare Yukai did, but I’m sure it will grow on me.

Younger, long-haired Haruhi figure please?

Excuse me while I go change my pants

Haruhi Extravaganza!

May 7, 2009

Part of my loot this month were the 1/8-scale Max Factory Haruhi and Mikuru Gekisou versions from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. An amazing one-two punch of figures here, and I am also anxiously awaiting the arrival of Yuki to complete the set.

YAЯЯЯ! May Loot Afoot!

May 4, 2009

Yo-ho, yo-ho, a figure collector’s life for me…

What came today but no less than three packages of figure booty. Even Yuki had to take off her glasses in awe, while Miku is singing praises of the wonderful loot. Two packages were plundered from the good people of HobbySearch, while the third is from eStarLand. This treasure will languish for the time being as I am obligated to complete a few prior engagements first, but rest assured I will be opening and digging through the loot soon.

Update: Now that I have found time to go through my loot, I wonder what could be inside this motherlode?

Collection Snapshot: Figmas

April 30, 2009

This idea was taken from a few of the good folks at DannyChoo. A few of the members of the awesome community there posted their Figma and/or Nendoroid collection, and I felt compelled to put my personal collection of Figmas up yet. I haven’t quite hit the magical 2-0 in my number of Figmas, but that will change when I receive my Haruhi summer uniform version and my Kagamiku Figma early next month, God willing.

Here is an overhead view of all of them in from of my computer. That is part of a K-On! meido-cafe wallpaper you see on the monitor, and my Hot Toys Iron Man Mk III skulking in the corner there.

The Figma Sandlot

April 20, 2009

Because of my figure obsessive completist disorder, I added the Haruhi and Mikuru cheerleader Figmas to my Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Figma collection that is nearly complete with every Haruhi Figma in the wild except for Kyon and Itsuki, because of my strict ban on sausages in my figure breakfast (which might have to be broken to accomodate for epic trap Mariya-sama in my previous post). These particular Figmas come with a bevy of accessories so that you can act out all your favorite scenes from Haruhi episode four, where Haruhi enters the SOS Brigade into the local baseball tournament. It’s one of my favorite episodes from that series, and I was definitely excited to start posing these Figmas.

Alter 1/8 Yuki Nagato School Uniform Ver.

April 10, 2009

Today, I’ll be going over the 1/8 scale Yuki Nagato in her school uniform put out by Alter, from the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I feel that this anime is popular enough that she really needs no introduction, and if you have been living under a rock, the Wiki article provides a good description. She is in a fairly subdued pose in this figure and sitting on her calves, which is a departure from the energetic and lively poses that most of Alter’s figures are sculpted in nowadays.
